Sure Paper Jam has a lot of missed potential, but the Paper Universe got remade because of Sticker Star. Some have been better than others, but there hasn’t been one that’s truly bad. However, there has never been a bad M&L game. I’m not a diehard Paper Jam defender, and I agree with a lot of points you brought up. Paper Jam, while definitely a lower quality game than we would expect from AlphaDream, was still good in some areas, such as solid gameplay, and nostalgia bone tickling with old enemies making a reappearance. Dream Team is by far the most innovative, with the best soundtrack the series has ever been given. People criticize Partners in Time for the linear structure, but I would rather take linear over a poorly executed open world game like Bowser’s Inside Story. Partners in Time had the best story by far, the best atmosphere, and genuine clashes and team-ups with Baby Bowser and the Bros, which also happened with SuperStar Saga. Superstar Saga excels at the pacing, and the wackiness of SuperStar Saga built a strong foundation that was important for Bowser’s Inside Story. While I would agree that Bowser’s Inside Story is the most complete in the most amount of aspects, I personally don’t think it’s the best. People keep treating Bowser’s Inside Story as the best one of the entire series.
